These two beautiful chairs are made entirely of cedar wood. One log was used to make all of the legs, each leg being a quarter section of the log. The arms, seat, and back slats were made out of 2.5" thick cedar slabs. There were natural voids from the trees growth that were filled with a tinted epoxy. The first chair was assembled with a combination of glued dowels and screws. The second chair was assembled with only glued dowels, only the leveler feet used screws.
The chairs were finished with a satin spar urethane from TotalBoat, a finish commonly used in marine wood application. This finish will help these chairs to endure the tough elements nature can bring better than other more common top coats.
These are the first chairs made here at NatureCraft. They follow the Adirondack style that is classic and timeless, while taking a whole new approach to what theme Adirondack chairs can be. The goal was to keep the usual shape and form, while being a professional and polished form of rustic styling. The seat slats are in the order they were cut off the slabs they were made from, giving a cool visual that the slabs were rolled out on top of the sides. The seat slats even lead into the back slats in the same manner.
The curved seat and back rest gives these chairs a lot of natural comfort, especially with the slight reclined position. All of the seat slats as well as the arms are given a 1/2" round over to give the chairs a softer and smoother feel.
On the bottom of each leg is a heavy duty threaded leveler foot. This helps to keep the wood up off the ground for longer life outdoors, as well as the ability to be level on any ground.
