This coffee table is crafted from one walnut slab that was cut into three pieces, following the grain lines. The cut was filled with a brown and copper epoxy base, then river rock over that with clear epoxy covering the rocks and brought up just shy of the level of the wood. The base is crafted from a sprawling cedar root and cedar log connected to a large steel plate keeping the whole piece together.
The goal with this piece was to make the river feel much more real than most "river tables" that are on the market. The combination of a colored epoxy base, shallow and deep end of the rocks, and the drop down from the wood height all lend to the realism this river table offers. Another unique feature about this river table is the wood has a beautiful low shine finish, while the river portion has high gloss and looks like it is wet. Most tables that offer a river rock style are flat from wood to river, and completely covered in epoxy. The base for this piece is aimed at keeping a minimal footprint while offering complete stability. The balance of the red heartwood and the lighter sapwood on this particular cedar root is a perfect match for the walnut top it is paired with.
